Take a Penny, Leave a Penny!

Close to three years ago, karnythia hosted an LJ post where she asked people to leave a comment if they had something they wanted or needed, or if they had something they were willing to give or offer.

I got two things: yarn and friends.

This is how I met rosefox, who has since become one of the people in my life whom I value most.

So I've been thinking a lot lately about that and what a big impact it had on my life over the past three years. And it made me want to do it for other people.

Quoting karnythia's post from all those years ago:

What do you want?
What do you need?
What do you have?

Feel free to answer any or all of them. They do not need to be realistic things (I put world peace on mine last time) If you don't have a LiveJournal, or would prefer to answer anonymously, give us a way to contact you.

Feel free to share this on LJ, DW, and other social media if you like.

What do you want?
The ability to sleep through the night, please.

What do you need?
Someone who can teach me about makeup- how does one use it? What should I be buying?
Motivation to stop being scared of other people and the ability to tolerate them.

What do you have?
I'm a really good editor, if you need one.
I can probably troubleshoot your computer problems. (Turn it off, and turn it on again.)
Chances are, if I talk to you long enough, I can make you laugh.

I'm no genius with really elaborate makeup, but I do a pretty good natural look and know some great brands! What kind of look are you going for?

Just, everyday wear. I have no clue what I'm doing.

One thing that can help is to go to a makeup store like Sephora/Ulta/MAC and have the people who work there recommend products for you, but if you are like me and do not like to talk to people in stores this may not be helpful.

I do recommend buying nice makeup rather than drugstore stuff, though, so trips to a decent makeup place is probably a good idea. It took me a long time, but once I actually tried the more pricey makeup I could never go back to drugstore. It makes my skin look/feel so much better.

I have skin that's kinda oily, so all the stuff I use might not work for you, but here's what I use, in order by application:

BASICS
1. Foundation. I use it because I have red undertones in my skin and need something to even out my complexion. I use Clinique, which is great, and isn't as expensive as some other brands. And it has sunscreen in it! (Clinique Even Better Makeup)
2. Concealer. I use it for blemishes/dark circles under my eyes. Urban Decay is one of my favorite brands, but you can always find stuff that's a little more affordable. The only thing to be careful with is to make sure you're matching your skin tone. (Urban Decay 24/7 Concealer Pencil)
3. Powder. You may not need to use powder if your skin isn't oily, but mine is so I need something to keep the oil in check. Again, I use Clinique. Their powder is a little more sheer than others, so it looks a bit more natural. (Clinique Stay Matte Sheer Pressed Powder)
4. Bronzer. Again, something you might not need, but it can give you a more natural look, especially during the summer. I went expensive with this one, but that's not really necessary. (Too Faced Bronzed & Poreless)
5. Blush. I put mine on really lightly because I already have red undertones. Just adds some color. I just bought Smashbox blush, but I really like the (much cheaper) Sephora blushes as well. (Smashbox Halo Long Wear Blush)
6. Eyeliner. I use liquid liner now, but if you buy liquid you probably want to practice with it first. It took me ages to learn how to get it on right. There are also crayon eyeliners if you prefer that. I like the Urban Decay eyeliners - they have serious staying power. (Urban Decay 24/7 Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner)
7. Mascara. Just to give your eyes more definition/lengthen your lashes. I don't like waterproof mascara because it feels gummy on my lashes, but some people prefer it because it doesn't smudge or run as much. I recently tried the Tarte mascara and I love it. Very clean feeling. (Tarte Lights, Camera, Lashes)

I realize that is a ton of stuff and doesn't really seem so "basic," but that's my daily routine and it gives me a very natural look without revealing my dark under-eye shadows, oily skin/blemishes, etc. If you want to play around, there are tons of great lipsticks and eyeshadows to provide color! I love the Clinique Almost Lipsticks, because they go on sheer and don't look so thick and waxy, and Urban Decay eyeshadows are smooth and gorgeously colored.

Anyway, don't know if this helped at all, but it was kind of relaxing to type out all my shit, so hey! ;)

By editing do you mean copy editing or content?

I can do both, depending on what individual needs are.

That would be awesome! I just basically want to know what to do to my face every day to make me look like an adult. I'm not sure how to describe my face or anything- I have skin? There are feckles? A nose?

Acupuncture can often work miracles for sleep. Your user info says Maryland - too far away for me to do any good, but if you're interested & tell me a city, I can email my alumni list and ask for a referral...?
